Hot Yoga opened the first studio March 2016 and has within one year expanded 3 times thanks to a phenomenal response. The owner and founder, Lise Knudsen, noticed a gap in the market when returning to Norway after many years abroad. She missed her Bikram practise and decided to do something about it.
All of the classes on the weekly schedule are hot classes and in addition there are “cold” workshops on weekends offering different types of yoga from various talented instructors.
The following classes are offered on the weekly schedule:
Bikram The original 90 minute hot yoga class invented in the 1970s by Bikram Choudhury, performed in 40+ degrees and 40+ percent humidity. It has been proved and experienced by millions that these 26 postures systematically work every part of the body, to give all the internal organs, all the veins, all the ligaments, and all the muscles everything they need to maintain optimum health and maximum function. Each component takes care of something different in the body, and yet they all work together synergistically, contributing to the success of every other one, and extending its benefits.
Bikram Express A 60 minute version of the original 90 minute class. Not as intense as the 90 minutes, each posture is only done once. It is also performed in 40+ degrees with 40+ percent humidity.
Bikram Yin Fusion The class starts wth 60 minute Bikram, then the last 30 minutes Hot Yin. Dynamic yang yoga combined with relaxing yin yoga. The class is performed in 40+ degrees and 40+ percent humidity.
HotYin 90 minutes Hot Yin class performed in 37+ degrees. A slow, relaxing class with music, candles and meditation focusing on stretching the muscles deep into the connective tissue.

HOT YOGA USES A TOP MODERN INFRARED HEATING SYSTEM WITH MANY HEALTH BENEFITS:
What is Far Infrared Heat?
Infrared light waves are longer than those of visible light and consist of invisible radiant energy. These invisible energy light waves gently warm your body from the inside out, penetrating deep into the cellular level. It’s similar to the feeling you get while lying on the beach and feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin. Our specially designed far infrared heating panels emit the same invisible infrared energy as the sun, without the UVA/UVB rays to damage your skin. (In case you’re wondering, this technology is completely safe; hospitals use it to keep newborn babies warm!)
Conventional heating methods use combustion to heat the air. As the blower system pushes the hot air into the room, the blowing action inundates the air with dust and allergens. For people who suffer from allergies, asthma, or other breathing problems, this can lead to an increase in symptoms and allergy/asthma attacks. Poor indoor air quality can also increase susceptibility to cold and flu viruses.
In addition, conventional forced air heating systems must run at higher combustible temperatures in order to provide adequate heat. This depletes the oxygen levels in the air making you feel tired and drowsy. In contrast, radiant far infrared heat helps you feel energized and alert because it does not rely on fossil fuels. It is an efficient “green” way to heat the indoors. Because radiant heat warms you from the inside there is no need to heat up the air around you which means there is more oxygen to breathe when you need it most – during a hot yoga class! So you can see, far infrared heat is good for you and our planet!
In the last 25 years, extensive research has been carried out world-wide regarding the numerous medical and health benefits of far infrared heat therapy. Here are just a few of the amazing benefits and great reasons why you should get heated up and refreshed in our far infrared heated studio.
Eliminates Toxins More Efficiently
Far infrared heating is one of the safest, most efficient ways to rid your body of numerous toxins, and is especially effective in ridding your body of heavy metals.
Dr. Toshiko Yamazaki, MD, owns a far infrared therapy clinic in Japan where she has conducted extensive research and found that infrared heat removes 20 percent more toxins and waste from your system than conventional heat.
In her book Science of Far Infrared Therapies Dr. Toshiko states,
“One of the reasons far infrared heat has shown beneficial results in a variety of illnesses is the ability of far infrared waves to remove toxins, which are often the cause of many health problems. Toxins in our body appear in water as clumps or globules. Blood circulation becomes blocked and cellular energy impaired where these toxins accumulate. However, when the energy from far infrared waves is applied to water molecules containing toxins, the water begins to vibrate, releasing the encapsulated gases and other toxic materials back into the bloodstream where they are removed naturally by the body’s normal detoxification process.”
The study also showed that the sweat released by far infrared heat therapy was different from the sweat released by users of conventional heat. The non-water portion of sweat released from the far infrared heat contained more toxic material and at higher concentrations. Higher levels of toxins such as cholesterol, fat-soluble toxins, toxic heavy metals, sulphuric acid, sodium, ammonia and uric acid were all found in the far infrared group. Since radiant heat stimulates circulation, it increases the body’s ability to rid itself of these toxins and waste products through the process of elimination, sweat, and breath.
Boosts Our Immune System
Far infrared heat can be used in the prevention and treatment of cancer, and it can help prevent colds and flu (to access the studies, click on the link below). If you feel like you are coming down with a cold, just 15-20 minutes of exposure to infrared heat each day can help eliminate it from your system. Studies have shown that far infrared heat boosts your immunity allowing it to mount a vigorous attack against unwanted invaders including viruses, bacteria, and cancer cells, by significantly increasing the production of white blood cells and killer T-cells. Far infrared heat creates a less than hospitable environment in our bodies for these germs and foreign invaders to grow and multiply, causing them to die off.
The 37.2 trillion cells in our bodies are resistant to heat and are able to withstand elevations in body temperature due to their anatomy. This is not the case with cancer cells. Cancer cells are heat sensitive. Numerous research studies have proven that they cannot survive in a hypothermic environment (excessive heat), and when the body is exposed to temperature increases, abnormal cells, including cancer cells, are eradicated without damaging healthy cells.
Skin Becomes Healthier and More Beautiful
By stimulating blood flow and increasing collagen production, infrared heat improves skin tone and reduces the signs of aging, ultimately improving the appearance of your skin. The increased circulation and collagen production has been shown to accelerate the healing of soft tissue injuries, scars, wounds, and cuts. In a study published in the American Journal of Chinese Medicine, far infrared energy had positive effects on human fibroblasts, the cells that rebuild connective tissue. The study also showed that far infrared energy significantly stimulated cell growth, DNA synthesis, and protein synthesis in cells.
It has also been shown to improve skin texture, as well as reduce pore size and the appearance of crow’s feet, fine lines, and wrinkles – woo hoo! In addition, by eliminating pore-clogging toxins which are often responsible for certain skin conditions including acne, eczema, and psoriasis, far infrared therapy can keep your skin looking healthy and beautiful.
Revs Up Your Metabolism
By penetrating deep into the skin, infrared rays heat the muscles, connective tissue, and internal organs stimulating tissue cells via vibrational energy. This energy activates the mitochondria, the energy powerhouse of the cell, which results in increased energy production, revving up your metabolism.
*Because increased body temperatures in an infrared-heated studio will lead to water loss, it is extremely important to properly hydrate before, and re-hydrate after class.*
Depending on the intensity of the class, you can expect to burn anywhere from 600-1200 calories or more in a one-hour session, making infrared heat a great way to torch calories and burn fat – Yea!! Toxins and waste are primarily stored in your fatty tissue/cellulite. As metabolism increases, fat and cellulite are more efficiently broken down releasing the toxins for elimination.
Decreases Arthritis Pain, Pain in the Muscles and Joints, and Relieves Depression
A Czechoslovakian study demonstrated that just 30-minutes of far infrared therapy doubled beta-endorphin levels in the blood. These (happy) endorphins block pain receptors in the brain, relieving pain and producing a sense of well-being and satisfaction. After an infrared-heated yoga class, many participants experience this feeling, which is often called the “hot yoga high.”
Improves Cardio-Vascular Health and Helps Lower Blood Pressure
Numerous studies in The Journal of the American College of Cardiology have shown that infrared sauna therapy improves blood vessel functioning, increases circulation, significantly lowers cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugars, all of which help support weight loss.
